DAY 350 Look How Far We've Come

Many years ago, I was one of the adults on a hike to the High Unitas.  I was "blessed" with the responsibility of walking with the slower, out of shape scout.  We soon were far behind the rest of the group.  My scout was overweight and depressed.  I continued to seek for ways to encourage him.  Finally he sat down on the trail, saying he was not going any further.  He took off his boots, cried as he saw the blood in his socks of both feet.  He would not go one more step.

I prayed and asked how I was going to motivate him.  I couldn't pick him up, he was bigger than me.  I was lost.  Then that sweet Spirit come into my mind and I said, "Hey, turn around look how far we have come.  Look at the beauty and realize what a great accomplishment you have made."  He stopped crying and slowly put on  his boots, and decided to go a "few" more steps.  We were just around the corner from our camp, which neither of us knew, but we did make it.  He enjoyed the rest of the  week in the Unitas.

In any goal, often the road to accomplish the goal is long, difficult and challenging.  Some times we feel like saying, "I will not go one more step toward this goal/vision."  But what we need to do is look at how far we have come.  Look at the accomplishment and decide to try just one more day, one more hour, or even one more minute.  Look how far you have come and know that the destination is just around the corner.  Keep trying.  Elder Holland says to rest a minute, but then get up and fight, go, and win the prize.
